Filling is a dental restorative procedure where materials such as resin composite, glass ionomer or amalgam will be used to restore the function, integrity and appearance of the diseased or cracked tooth. The structural loss typically results from caries or external trauma.
A dental extraction means the permanent removal of a tooth from the mouth. Extractions are performed for a wide variety of reasons, including tooth decay that has destroyed enough tooth structure to render the tooth non-restorable. Extractions of impacted or problematic wisdom teeth are routinely performed, as are extractions of some permanent teeth to make space for orthodontic treatment.
Scaling and Polishing
Scaling and polishing involve removing plaques (soft, sticky, bacteria infested film), calculus(tartar) and stains that have built up on the teeth over time. If the plaque and calculus is allowed to accumulate on the teeth, it will unfortunately provide the right conditions for bacteria to thrive next to the gum that eventually leads to gum infection, sensitive teeth and even teeth loosening.
It is recommended to repeat the procedures every 6-12 months to ensure optimal oral health.
